It is incredibly humbling to support new projects from the very beginning and witness the results of a plan and commitment. Orígenes, in its essence, reflects dedication and a well-thought-out strategy. And it is located in the superb region of Brunca, in Pérez Zeledón, at an altitude of 1,850–1,900 masl.
Edgar Silva, Ricardo Azofeifa, Rebeca Moya and international partners considered the possibilities of allowing Costa Ricans to know, differentiate, and enjoy the different types of coffee produced in Costa Rica. But not purely limiting themselves to only sell coffee domestically. Because, whether it's the variety, cultivation area, harvesting, or processing, coffee develops differences from lot to lot.
Origenes is reinvesting all their income into processing facility with a cupping lab. And trust me, it is going to be a cupping lab with A view.
One of the most important aspects of coffee is the people behind it—the individuals whose dedication and expertise shape each distinct lot. As an industry, we often find ourselves repeating similar narratives, yet the real starting point for a meaningful coffee experience lies in a deeper understanding of those who produce it. Their stories, their struggles, and their triumphs deserve more than just passing acknowledgement.
At Origenes, one of the guiding principles is to foster a deeper appreciation for coffee by sharing the unique stories and detailed information behind each lot. Aim is to build connections between the coffee and its real origin, local Spanish-speaking market. By telling these stories in their native language, Origenes bridges the gap between the producers and the people who drink the coffee, nurturing a genuine sense of respect and admiration.
What continues to fascinate me is the fact that, in many coffee-producing regions, the people who grow and process coffee often have little or no opportunity to taste their own product. This disconnect underlines the importance of not just selling coffee but creating a space for producers to experience why their coffee is sold in Canada. Helping producers understand how their coffee is received and appreciated by the world can be transformative—it fuels pride, inspires improvement, and strengthens the connection between producers and consumers. Origenes translates it for Costa Ricans.
The Orígenes is located in División de Pérez Zeledón at 1,850 meters above sea level. In terms of geography, Costa Rica's tropical climate and fertile soils make it a suitable place for growing avocados. Apart of coffee, Orígenes planted few hectares with Hass variety of to bring more profitability and balance yield from coffee with domestically sold avocados.
